travelogue || Taiwan 2012 - part TWO

Whoa I'm taking ages to update this.

Anyway, I hope this post is much simpler - it has been a month plus since I came back from Taiwan and I'm kinda losing it. Some may not be accurate since it's been 'ages', LOL.

5th Day : Taichung - Taipei

Kick started the day with the usual buffet breakfast at the hotel and then boarded the bus for another ... CLASSES WITH OUR TOUR GUIDE! Woop woop.

Showing us where we have went for the past few days.

So we left for lunch + Puppet Show somewhere around Taichung.  It's a "most representative of Taiwan cultural heritage - traditional performance." (quote from Apple Tour's itinerary)

Having lunch while watching the puppet show.

 The stage.

They passed us each a hand puppet to practice with - and who does well gets some postcards of their dolls.

For mine, I did Gangnam Style because it's Gangnam Style.

Bro fisted my sister's hand puppet because yeah we bros.

 UH.

After a good performance, we left to wait for the bus while we played in the park hohoho.

Boarded the bus and on the way we go to Taipei ! 3 hours ride on the bus, since it's 190km.

But before that, we had to stop by 'Tianlu Culture Center' where they begin another brainwashing session.

This time is - you count the number of strokes in your Chinese name, and if it sums up to a certain number, it's good. If you get a zero or something, then it's bad luck. (I really forgot what's the number because really, I do not care.)

Then of course, if you get the 'bad luck' number, they'll be all "Oh well, you know if you want to cure this bad luck, you can buy our jade to change the luck yknow."

If you get the 'good luck' number, they'll still try to find a way to persuade you by saying "Well if you want better luck, you could always get our jade."

PROFIT!!

I sat there painfully for 30 minutes (I think maybe longer because I felt like dying - not literally) listening to something I don't believe in. And that damn place has no WiFi so I can't tweet my misery lol.

Anyway, after that, bus ride continues to Taipei, phew.

First destination in Taipei - Taipei 101 !
Vaness Wu, he's almost everywhere!

On this cloudy day, you basically can't see anything from up there.

The interior looks pretty much like KLCC.

We had a small tea of noodles. Because we're too hungry!

RM4.50 for a HUGE cup of Chatime. This flavour is Taipei Mango QQ.
It has nata de coco pieces and pearls in a mango flavoured drink. Super yums!

Left the building when it's around 5.30pm. The sky's dark because it's winter.

On the way to another night market. I went to too many night markets till I kinda forgot their names! Oops. If someone knows, please do let me know!

It was raining, booo. But thank god the market was sheltered!

You do NOT want to know what's this. LOL.

 Expensive fruits!!!

After getting a few t-shirts, we left to the hotel!

That's it for Day 5!

6th Day : Taipei Free Day - DAY ONE

So today's a free day, and we don't have to follow the tour! Woop woop!

Dad called his colleague who lives in Taipei and he drove us around today! Thanks Uncle!

Had lunch at The Howard Hotel,

Nom nom nom nommmm.

After that we went to shop (again!)

I only took pictures when I was resting and not shopping, HAHA.

Had a hot bowl of Taiwanese dessert!

And then visited a bakery shop! SO CUTE I TELL YOU.

Then for dinner, we went to eat Beef Noodles! This time, it's at a more 'authentic' restaurant.

But we had to park our car in this really fancy building -- which lifts your car up in a car-lift ..

And you park your car like this ..

It's like a garage, but in a building. SO FANCY YET SCARY.

Off to noms.

 Look at this beefy goodness.

After nomming, we just walked around the streets. Bookshop aaaah.

Santa card .. and I.... hahahaha.

Got so hyper when I saw this!

 Then we went for DESSERT.

Mango shaved ice with bits of mango - topped with Mango ice cream!
SO MUCH MANGO-EY GOODNESS!!

After that we left to our hotel and rested.

7th Day : Taipei Free Day - DAY TWO

Last day in Taiwan! But at least it's another free day and not with the tour, hehehe.

Kicked it off with dumplings for lunch!

Just look at this, yuuuuuuuuum.

Then we went to the National Palace Museum.

Sister got me this, hehehe. Such a cute camera case!

So I'm happy.

We entered the museum - couldn't take any pictures.

But what intrigued me was the long line to see the Chinese Cabbage that it's made out of Jade. As in this:

What's beside it is a "Meat-shaped stone" (A piece of jasper - cleverly used to create a likeness of a piece of pork cooked in soy sauce. The dyed and textured surface makes the layers of skin, lean meat, and fat materialized incredibly lifelike.) - wikipedia.org

"The ruffled semi-translucent appearance of the leaves is due to the combination of various natural colors of the jade to recreate the color variations of a real cabbage. The figure was carved from a single piece of half-white, half-green jadeite which contained numerous imperfections such as cracks and discolored blotches. These flaws were incorporated into the sculpture and became the veins in the cabbage's stalks and leaves.

The sculpture is considered an allegory of female virtue with the white stalk symbolizing purity, the leaves denoting fertility and abundance and locust and katydid representing children." - wikipedia.org

So many people queuing up to see this, it's adorable.

Had light tea after that!

 Latte.

Cheeeeesecake.

My mum saw these on display and she wants it.

A miniature version of the cabbage and the meat stone omggggg.

Had bubble tea again because I'm obsessed with this.
Cheesy motto tho: "What is the memory of the tea? It's the tea shop."

Off to rest a bit in the hotel, and then dinner! Spicy Hotpot - 麻辣火锅, yum!

Left side's chicken soup, and the right side is the spicy one.

The meat rolls that you dip into the soup.

Not sure what this is but it's cute. Like shoelaces in a knot lol.

I could help myself with some Rectum please? It's supposed to be 'stomach', lol.

Had a great dinner with Uncle, and then later he brought us to our LAST MINUTE shopping at a nearest market. It was already 9pm, and we were nearly falling asleep but it's our last night so what's there to lose?

No pictures because we really went 'hardcore', hahaha.

That's it for the last day of Taiwan!

8th Day : Taipei - Kuala Lumpur

Goodbye, Taiwan! Woke up at around 8am-ish and packed up. Went to the airport with the tour gang.

Checking in.

Thanks Taiwan for the awesome memories!

5 hour flight, and then we reached home at around 10pm.

Had supper with the family -

This says it all.

That's it for Taiwan! Hope you enjoyed the post. As what people say, Taiwan's a home for SHOPPING and FOOD ! So if you're bound on a journey to Taiwan, remember to EAT and SHOP to your heart's content!
